doing a 1.4 to 2.0 xe conversion. going slow but still going!
FYI - those chris astley bolts suck. snapped a bolt yesterday, not giving it a great deal of torque...
Some pics from my conversion.
now having problems as the engine seems not to fit... had to take of the powercap, and still doesnt fit. the left engine mount is ok... the gearbox mount is of some centimeters.. seems to lack in space on the rear..
cant understand why..
cut myself around 1 am as you can see by the blood drops on the floor... so i call it a night. Engine in the bay but cant manage to fit it properly.
damn

| you need to fit the rear mount first mate and redrill holes in the two front brackets to line up with your mounts as your bonnet most likley wont shut anyway due to the front end being lower on a tigra than on a corsa |

rear first? dont i need to put it relating to the engine? i tought i needed to adjust the mount with spacers in order to align it perfect with the engine
anyway... i didnt understand the two front brackets you mentioned, can you explain please barrY?
as for the bonnet i will space the left and gearbox mount with some washers i guess...

you should of already fitted the spacers between the gearbox and mount
anyway... i didnt understand the two front brackets you mentioned, can you explain please barrY?
the brackets are the metal parts normally refered to as mounts but the rubber part is actually the mount
as for the bonnet i will space the left and gearbox mount with some washers i guess...
this would work on the engine side but not on the gearbox side but as you need to drill the mounts anyway to line the engine up it would make sence to drill the holes to drop the front down slightly.i have done this with mine and had no issues for three years
thanks! |

success!
turns out i did it best by putting the original tigra x14xe gearbox mount and doing left and right mount first, by that order.
so i did left, gearbox and finally rear one!
the rear on didnt match, so i had to enlarge the hole.. hope i dont have problems with that later!!
seems solid and the bonnet shuts as i used a couple of washers on the mounts (left and right)..
the engine sits in perfectly, very straight and all.
i also removed the firewall and cut a bit of the panel to fit the powercap.
next: assemble the surroundings! radiator and all that jazz (before i get to the wiring part)
will put pictures later |

ok, i need to work out the transmission now.
i need to buy new bearings now, but what am i buying, tigra ones or cav ones (as i have equal lenght shafts from where i will remove the CV joints)?!
i have bought these shafts:
along with these hubs:
and i have a equal lenght shaft setup similar to this that came from a CAV:
Im new to shafts assembly... so all i know is that i am missing BEARINGS, so i will start by gathering all the parts.
what leads to my original question, what bearings do i need to buy? corsa/tigra ones? or Cav ones? |

Throw those in the bin and fit these:

you'll probably need to trim one of them down a bit. _________________ Under 400bhp makes baby jesus cry.

ok, will do m8! thanks!
chip: you are talking about trimming what? i think you misunderstood, you must be talking about the equal lenght shafts... im not using those now. im just using the Cv jounts from them. i cant fit them now.. too much asle..
thanks |

i had a try and fit the long one and it doesnt go into the geabox for a lot.. about 2 centimeters stay out the gearbox.
What i am trying now it to remove the 1.4 shaft to put the bigger ones..
How is that done? with all that grease i cant see how i remove the bar from the CV
this one is not mine but its the same (just a bit cleaner).. I can see those bearings and all but i cant take out the shaft.. is there a trick or so?!
i cant do this wrong as i cant destroy the CV joint, i will use it again (one time all the bearings came off, never could put it in place again..)

quite hard with the mess i made yesterday... that grease is nasty! can have enough papers to clean it..
i seen great tutorials on the web now, i think im ready for the job!
I will have a last look at the equal lenght shaft setup..
Chip, about forcing the shafts into the gearbox.. i really slammed the shafts into the gearbox and it doesnt enter enough.. is there something i am missing here? i always did this way but its not working for this f20..
PS. removing the hubs is a bitch.. the driveshaft moves and doenst let me take the nut of.. had to bend a few screws to lock the hub into position..should have done it with the wheels in place on the car.. |

Ok.. THOSE CIRCLIPS ARE DRIVING ME INSANE!!!!
its nearly impossible to take the shaft out of the hub...
this is a nice standart circlip:
this is a nice tool i have for them:
AND THIS IS A CIRCLIP FROM HELL THAT IS AT THE HUB:
Its more or less like so... (not actual image)..
WHAT A NIGHTMARE... only did one so far... its impossible.. i had to grind one of the ends with the dremmel and slide it of from on side... of course i will not use it again now.. its destroyed.
i understand it would be easy to fit this circlip... but to remove its really ANNOYING !!!!!!!! |

Ok... i just put the driveshafts nightmare aside, will sort it later..
started pluging the anciliarities, radiator is ok, de PAS is ok...
now i am struggling with the fuel lines.
the fuel line that bolt onto the fuel rail, just above the fuel pressure..
Can i cut the BLUE fuel pipe that comes from the tank?! of does it need proper fitting on a new pipe because of pressure?!
The blue pipe is just too LONG to fit there, it bend and cut flow...
