Thing is, at 120mph, 0.2 miles is 12 seconds. It's not hard to get a reading, especially as the OP said they were "pushing" ie close behind for a period till the leading car floor it.
Someone was exceedingly stupid and got far luckier than they deserved to be IMO |

Yes it is 12 seconds, if there at the start of the dots, however the dots aren't every 0.2miles, sometimes they don't have them for a couple of miles.
I'm not condoning speeding, however we've all done it, and most will continue to do it. _________________ Shonky-opels.de now with VAVAVOOM |

| Never said you were. You dont need the dots, we dont have them up here at all and people are still convicted of speeding on the basis of calibrated speedos. |

Maybe Scottish law is different. However to get an accurate average speed the cops have to travel a known distance in a xxx time.
This is how it was about 5 years ago when I used to work for the MET police and spoke to a friendly Traffic officer. I have also been in a police car with blues and twos going, and he used the system to show me how it worked. _________________ Shonky-opels.de now with VAVAVOOM |

up here they get a calibrated speedo box with a digital readout and have to see it exceed xxx speed over 0.2 miles, so they have to follow you at an even distance, with constant sight of you for 0.2miles.
makes it quite hard to do someone for 35 in a 30, but VERY easy for 100 in a 70 or whatever! |

Down here we send our speedos to IRS nottingham who calibrate it to the tyre and car. I had my old GSI clock done to 205/40R17 tyres. _________________ Shonky-opels.de now with VAVAVOOM |

They used to have them, however they have to be calibrated daily or weekly can't remember, and a certificate filled out. _________________ Shonky-opels.de now with VAVAVOOM |

i was done about 2 years ago doin 110 in a 40 the guy said he had to do excess mph to catch up with me but was not close enough to get the speed reading etc and when he was close enough i realaised it was an unmakerd car i backed off so he could only measure over that distance when he was close enough making the average speed about 70 and i got 3 points ;) if this makes sense or is of any help _________________ building a lightweight corsa let |

If they charge you with dangerous driving then them not having a reading of your speed doesnt matter. With dangerous driving all that is needed in court is the opinion of 2 officers of what speed you were doing for it to be counted as evidence.
If you were racing then you are in a whole lot of bother, I would get a very good road traffic officer who could try argue the speed down and get anything regarding the racing dropped leaving you with a speeding charge. |

as spanish said everyone no matter how much of a goody goody you wish to make yourself look has driven over the speed limit and most if not all will again. I too am not condoning speeding and paid the price for speeding i was merely trying to point out that it is not a fair system when someone doing 45 in a 30 gets 3 points and £60 fine and someone else gets away with 120+ breaking several other laws too but hey shit happens _________________ i`m not smart enough to know i`m stupid |

| Just get a car that will outrun the police car, then no need to worry. |

So something that'll do over 180 then otherwise the chopper will still get you... _________________ "In a perfect world... spammers would get caught, go to jail, and share a cell with many men who have enlarged their penises, taken Viagra and are looking for a new relationship." |

there is no car full stop that can outrun a helicopter, all they will do it climb and follow you at a longer distance catching up as the crow flys between junctions
something you cannot do in a car _________________ glove boxes FTW |
